TRASH & RECYCLING SERVICES

Municipal Trash Collection

EFFECTIVE JULY 2, 2007 THE TOWNSHIP TRASH WILL BE COLLECTED BY EARTH TECH.  ANY PROBLEMS PLEASE CALL 1-888-390-1211.

Recycling Services

Effective May 2, 1997 the Atlantic County Utilities Authority (ACUA) provides only  recycling services throughout the Township.  Recycling problems and questions should be directed to the ACUA at 1-800-613-2282.

NOTE:  Plastic bags will no longer be accepted for recycling. 
These should now be placed in your trash.

Residents are encouraged to limit their weekly trash to three (3) 32 gallon containers or the equivalent.

  1. Recycling is mandatory. Make sure to separate all recyclables from your trash for curbside pick-up.

  2. The B.V.T. Drop-off Center may also be used for disposing of other recyclable items such as: brush, metals, motor oils and tires. Note: No Trash is accepted.

  3. Reuse or donate items such as clothing, good furniture and old books instead of just throwing them away.

  4. Excess trash will be left until the next pick-up date if over the limit. Please remove from the curb until the next trash pickup.

Trash containers shall be metal or plastic, water tight, have handles, not exceed 32 gallons and weigh no more then 40 pounds when filled. Plastic bags may be used in place of containers. Metal drums are not acceptable. Please secure trash from animals. Loose or non-containered trash will not be picked up.

Bulky Waste.  Residents may dispose of TWO bulky items per week with household trash.

The ACUA collects only residential trash. Commercial, industrial and business, plus building or demolition projects, must provide their own dumpster (or arrangement) for pick-up by a private hauler.

Placement time: All waste materials set out for collection shall be placed at curbside no later than 7:00 a.m. on the day of collection. All empty waste containers must be removed from curbside by 7:00 p.m. on the day of collection.

Trash rule violations carry penalties of a $100.00 - $500.00 fine and/or community service may be assessed.

HOLIDAY COLLECTION DAYS

When a regularly scheduled trash collection day falls on a holiday, trash is then collected on the next work day following the holiday.

MUNICIPAL TRASH COLLECTION

Residents may dispose of TWO bulky items per week with household trash.

bulletZone 1:  Route 54 north of Weymouth Road (not including Weymouth Road) to Newtonville including Buena Acres. Every Tuesday.
 
bulletZone 2:  All of Collings Lakes and Cains Mill Road to Jackson Road.  Including Lake Ann. Every Wednesday.
 
bulletZone 3:   Weymouth Road, Route 54 south, Route 40 including Cedar Avenue, Llewellyn Avenue, Main Avenue, and Old Landis Avenue to Tuckahoe Road (not including Tuckahoe Road).  Every Thursday. Thanksgiving Day trash collected Friday (11/24/06).
 
bulletZone 4:   Tuckahoe Road and South, Milmay and East Vineland. Every Friday.  Thanksgiving Friday trash collected Saturday (11/25/06).

 

Regular Recycling Day:  Every other Friday. 

Paper/Corrugated Cardboard:  Newspaper, magazines, junk mail, computer paper, envelopes, telephone books, paperback books, brown grocery bags and catalogues can be tied together with twine or placed in a brown paper bag.  Corrugated cardboard should be flattened, stacked in bundles and tied with twine. 

Glass Bottles, Aluminum, Steel, Aerosol Cans & Paint Cans:  Glass bottles and jars (all colors), aluminum, steel, aerosol & paint cans. Bottles and cans should be rinsed. Paint cans and aerosol cans must be empty and plastic lids removed (aerosol cans). 

Plastics:  Milk, water, juice, soda, dish or laundry detergent bottles, or any plastic container carrying the recyclable symbols .  Place all glass bottles, aluminum, steel, aerosol and paint cans and plastic bottles together in your recycling bucket. 

Household Batteries:  Place toy, watch, radio, camera, hearing aid and flashlight batteries in a clear plastic bag and place on top of your recycling bucket. 

2008 Household Hazardous Waste & Paint Drop-off

Atlantic County residents can properly dispose of household hazardous waste and leftover paint, anti-freeze, used motor oil, auto/boat batteries and CFL's by bringing them to the ACUA.

When: March 5th, May 3rd, July 12th,
September 6th and November 1st

Time: 9:00 am to 2:00 pm

Where: ACUA Recycling Center,
6700 Delilah Road, Egg Harbor Twp.,

Proof of residency required: driver's license, tax bill, etc.
Max quantity: 30 gal. and/or 200 lbs. dry wt. per household
Individual container sizes should not exceed 5 gallons
Individual used oil containers will not be returned.

ACUA TRASH TRANSFER STATION

The ACUA operates the Trash Transfer Station at 6700 Delilah Road in Pleasantville (Egg Harbor Township). Residents may take all types of trash including bulk construction materials to the Transfer Station. Your vehicle will be weighed and a fee assessed.

RECYCLING SERVICES

The Township's Recycling Coordinator will make periodic inspections of curbside trash. Three warning notices are issued before trash is left behind and /or the resident receives a summons to appear in court. Penalties of $100.00 - $1,000.00 and/or community service may be assessed.

Blue Recycling Containers

The County provides each home in Buena Vista with (2) blue 10 gallon recycling containers. All containers are the property of the ACUA and are to be used only for acceptable recycling items. Any trash placed in the blue containers will not be removed by the ACUA. 
All recyclables can be co-mingled (except paper and cardboard).

CHRISTMAS TREE RECYCLING

The ACUA will collect trees curbside during the 1st two weeks of January along with yard waste.

B.V.T. Recycling Drop-Off Center

The center is open to all B.V.T. residents - proof required.

Location - Township Public Works Yard, Oak and Union Roads, East Vineland

Open - FIRST Saturday of each month (legal holidays may cause dates to vary occasionally) 8:00 a.m. - 12:00 Noon.

RECYCLING DROP-OFF CENTER RULES

bulletCenter is for normal residential use.
bulletNo household trash - (it is collected curbside).
bulletNo construction or demolition materials accepted.
bulletNo business materials.
bulletNo shingles, painted, stained or treated wood.
bulletNo houses, barns, sheds or wooden fences.
bulletRecyclable items must be presorted and ready for disposal.
bulletThe Township reserves the right to limit quantities and to refuse unacceptable items.
bulletYou must unload yourself.
bulletNO TIPPING.
bulletConstruction/Demolition materials may be taken to the Atlantic County Trash Transfer Station.
