Buena Eagle Scout Continues to Soar John H. Ruhlman, Jr. of Richland has culminated 12 years of Scouting with his Eagle Scout Court of Honor. The ceremony for the son of Donna and John Ruhlman, Sr. was shared by Cumberland District Boy Scout Executive Scott Arnold, New Jersey State Assemblyman Nicholas Asselta, former Vineland Troop 10 Scoutmaster Rich Lichtenstein, as well as the present leaders, Scouts, and families of Vineland’s Troop 10. John’s determination to achieve Boy Scouting’s highest award was acknowledged with a presentation by PBA representative Ralph Lawrence and a proclamation delivered by Mayor Chuck Chiarello on behalf of Buena Vista Township. Over the years, John assented through the ranks earning 28 merit badges, advancing from Patrol Leader to Troop 10’s Senior Patrol Leader, and becoming a member of Scouting’s elite service organization, the Order of the Arrow. The Eagle Scout Project that John planned, directed, and carried out revitalized the nature trail at Parvin’s State Park. But John’s 30-mile backpacking trip in the grueling High Peaks Region of the Adirondacks and his assent to one of its highest peaks would not be the peak of his journey of dedication and leadership. John’s Eagle Scout Court of Honor would not be his last day in uniform. Currently, in addition to his studies at Monmouth College, John Ruhlman still proudly wears a uniform and has already passed his flight school test in the Air Force ROTC. In every sense of the word, this Eagle Scout continues to soar.
