BVT Responds to National Tragedy

In the wake of the tragic events of September 11, 2001, hundreds of people in the volunteer and fire services in and around Buena Vista Township waited in anticipation to be called into service to help in this time of national tragedy .  In the afternoon and evening of that fateful Tuesday, volunteers throughout the Township gathered at their fire and ambulance halls in anticipation of moving North to help the less fortunate.

All of our fire company, rescue squads and community members may not be needed, but Buena Vista, like hundreds and hundreds of other towns, stood ready to help.

Emergency Management Coordinator Carlo Merighi waited for details to arrive on his fax machine throughout that long, horrible day.  Chief Ron Ruggieri of the East Vineland Volunteer Fire Company prepared his men to assist in a staging area in the Meadowlands area across from New York City.  Mayor Chuck Chiarello stayed at the municipal building the entire day.  Our Township staff and Public Works Department spent the day wondering in what way they could help.

Our hearts go out to anyone and everyone who is touched by this tragedy, whether personally or through the emotions of learning of the events of the day.  We can all help by giving blood to the Red Cross or saying a prayer or giving a loved one a hug in the days to come.
