Buena Vista Township will receive a road grant of $ 140,000. The road grant has been provided to enable local street repair and resurfacing on Main Avenue from the Bridge at Pancoast Mill to Country Club Lane in Richland.
In addition to Buena Vista Township, 17 other Atlantic County municipalities will also receive road grants totaling $ 2.5 million. Grants in neighboring towns will also help Buena Vista travelers. Hamilton Township has received a grant to improve its part of Jackson Road, which leads to Newtonville. The Hamilton part of Jackson has been a mess for some time and even worst since Buena Vista fixed its part a few years ago. Also, Folsom has received a grant to fix up East Collings Drive which many Buena Vista residents use to reach their homes.
Acting Governor Donald T. DiFrancesco and Transportation Commissioner James Weinstein stated that the grant represents a portion of the $170 million available through the New Jersey Department of Transportation’s Local Aid program for fiscal year 2002. Buena Vista Township has been successful with this program for many years.
Municipal aid funding is based on a formula that takes into account population and road mileage. Municipal projects are selected for funding on a competitive basis by a panel of engineers who evaluate the condition of a roadway, the amount of traffic it carries and the role the road plays in the surrounding transportation network.
