DAY FESTIVAL

On Sunday, July 1, the Buena Vista Township Special Events Committee will be hosting the 13th Annual Independence Day Celebration starting at Noon at the Michael Debbi Park in Richland. (Rain Date: Sunday, July 8, 2001)
The annual Fire Truck Parade will start in Collings Lakes at First Beach at 11:00 a.m. and progress to the Michael Debbie Park on Cedar Avenue in Richland by Noon. In honor of the 75th Anniversary of Richland and East Vineland Volunteer Fire Companies, current and former Fire Chiefs from Richland and East Vineland will be the Grand Marshals.
For the second year in a row, the BVT EMS will assist by serving chicken barbeque platters along with the Buena Vista Exchange Club, who will be providing hamburgers, hot dogs and fries. Tickets for the chicken barbeque platters are $7.50 each and can be obtained at the Mayor’s Office or from Special Events Committee Members.
Civil War Re-enactors will set up an authentic camp and will shoot two cannons throughout the day. Modern military memorabilia and military vehicles also will be on display.

There will be a car show sponsored by the Garden State 50’s Club. All vintage car, truck or motorcycle owners are welcome to participate and compete for trophies.
There will be a baby and carriage parade at 3:00 p.m. with judging and prizes. The baby parade is open to Buena Vista Township residents, ages 2 and under.
A special dedication to Former Mayor Sam Brunozzi will take place during a special program at 5:00 p.m. The program will also feature a salute to Buena Vista Township being named, “The Kindest Town in New Jersey” for 2001.
Area DJ “Nicky G,” will provide entertainment all day and night. There will be a special guest appearance of “Country George & The Western Jammers” performing two shows in the afternoon.
Other activities during the day include face painting,
puppet shows, pony rides, bouncy rides, sand art, cartoon characters,
fireman’s water barrel fights and a watermelon-eating contest. “Smokey the Bear” will bake a special appearance
via helicopter (weather permitting).
