BUENA VISTA TOWNSHIP - State Police found two bodies Thursday in a car submerged
in an irrigation pond. They said the car may have been there for as long as two
years.
The vehicle apparently became partially visible due to the recent drought, which
lowered the water level in the pond, State Police at the Buena Vista barracks
said.
Trooper Nick Stavoli found the car in a pond on the Sikking Farm on Post Road
when he responded to a report of a submerged vehicle at 11:11 a.m., police said.
A State Police Tactical Emergency and Mission Specialists unit pulled the car
from the water, which revealed the two bodies inside.
State Police said subsequent investigation indicated that the car apparently was
traveling east on Post Road when it crossed into the westbound lane, left the
roadway, sideswiped a nearby utility pole and wound up in the pond, completely
submerged.
Detectives recovered identification matching that of a person reported missing
to the Buena Vista barracks earlier this year, but positive identification was
still pending, State Police said. The investigation also indicated that the car
and its occupants may have been submerged for about two years.
