                                      Public Works Report

October, 2001

The Public Works Department has been busy cleaning up the Public Works Yard.  We caught up with all the chipping of brush.

We have used the boom arm mower to trim brush and trees along several of our Township roads.

The County Board of Health held a Satellite Tire Amnesty Day at our Public Works Yard on our regular recycling Drop-Off day.  We took in about 200 tires for that program.

We also collected approximately 800 lbs. of metal, 310 gallons of used oil, 6 yds. of brush, 13 bags of leaves, and 5 tires that were too large for the Amnesty program.  We also collected 5 batteries, 23 cans of old paint, 20 household hazardous waste items and a few cardboard boxes, cans and bottles.

Public Works installed two exhaust fan vents in the kitchen at Michael Debbi Park and a payment drop box on the Court Clerk’s outside door.  This is for the convenience of residents who wish to make court payments after hours.  Payments must be made by check only.

We have replaced some street signs that were stolen and others which were old and worn out.  We have also done some pothole patching and some grading.

Public Works prepared Michael Debbi Park for the “American Pride Day” and helped deliver flyers for the event.

We had some serious vandalism at Michael Debbi Park.  Someone broke the skylights in the new rest rooms.  We are asking anyone who may know something about this to call the State Police at 561-1800 or town hall at 697-2100.

We have cleaned up another tire dumping site and delivered these to the ACUA for the Tire Amnesty Program.  That brings the total number of tires we have cleaned up to 2,037.

Public Works opened up an area at the end of Ardsley Terrace for a cul-de-sac in preparation for the resurfacing of this road and Cannon Range Road.

We are presently working on the drainage problem on Yost Road and we are also preparing our vehicles, sanders and plows for winter.

Our next Recycling Drop-Of f will be November 3rd from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon at the Union Road Yard.

Recycling and yard waste collection dates for the month of November are the 9th and 23rd.
